Justice O'Connor Announces Retirement

The gloves will be coming off shortly. Today at 1000 EDT, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor announced her retirement from the Supreme Court.

The hand-wringing you hear is coming from Harry Reid (D-NV).

In a brief appearance before the press, the President thanked Justice O'Connor for her decency and service to the Nation.

Teeth-gnashing sounds have been added courtesy of Harry Reid (D-NV). Senate Minority Leader Reid has a deep repsect for all members of the Supreme Court, so the confirmation process of the newest Justice should go smoothly. Senator Reid has his ideas on who would make a good Justice.

UPDATE: The Reaction from Harry Reid (D-NV) -- Hat Tip to Mark Noonan

"Above all, Justice O'Connor has been a voice of reason and moderation on the court. It is vital that she be replaced by someone like her, someone who embodies the fundamental American values of freedom, equality and fairness." _ Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid (D-NV)

Keep in mind that Harry Reid (D-NV) never demanded that Bill Clinton replace retiring conservative Supreme Justice Byron White with another conservative. In fact, Reid (D-NV) voted to confirm the uber-liberal Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
